The Location
We are committed to providing a permanent home for our Aviation High School students at Boeing Field next to The Museum of Flight.
Locating at The Museum of Flight means students will have day-to-day access to aircraft, educational exhibits, and visiting lecturers and industry leaders. Through an education grounded in the Humanities, this represents an unprecedented opportunity for Raisbeck Aviation High School and The Museum of Flight to serve as a national model of STEM excellence, creating Washington State's next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators.
Our Vision
To be the premier public high school of choice for students in King County and the region who wish to pursue their passion for aviation and aerospace in a learning environment that prepares them for higher education, citizenship, and work.
A Small School With A Big Vision
Aviation High School breaks the mold and presents a new approach for what a public high school can be. Not only is it the only college preparatory aviation-themed high school in the Northwest, it’s a small school with a clear purpose – namely, to help create the next generation of scientists, engineers, and other aviation and aerospace-focused professionals who can provide leadership in a global marketplace where the U.S. once dominated.
If We Build it They Will Come...
We Know Because They Already Have
Aviation High School first opened its doors in 2004 after receiving start-up funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It currently resides at the old Olympic Middle School in Des Moines, WA but only temporarily. A critical piece of the Aviation High School experience is interaction with mentors and volunteers in the field of aviation. Locating our school in the heart of Seattle’s aviation and aerospace community near Boeing Field, at The Museum of Flight will provide unlimited opportunity for students to learn from aviation and aerospace professionals.
Prospective students from all around the Puget Sound region are seeking out Aviation High School as a school of choice. Students come from more than 20 school districts …Tacoma, Bellevue, Seattle, Monroe and Bremerton, to name a few. Not long after opening, we quickly reached our capacity of 400 students in grades 9-12. Applications received now exceed available openings.
A Place to Call Our Own
For our students, learning is about much more than books. It’s about using their head, hands and heart to learn from some of the best minds in aviation and aerospace industries. Students present structural concepts to engineers; they build robots, rockets and wing beams. They collaborate, and sometimes compete, with mentors in the workforce to solve problems and implement solutions to economic, political, social, or cultural challenges.
In order to continue preparing our students for college, career and citizenship, our school must have a permanent home – one that is more accessible to our students, with our own labs and facilities – at a location near the 200+ aviation and aerospace businesses that surround Boeing Field.
Aviation High School is breaking the sound barrier in education. You can be part of it.
Now is your chance to positively impact education in Washington State an dthe nation for the next 50 years and beyond. Your financial support will not only shape the lives of thoughts of young leaders, it will help keep America and its economy strong.
