As a part of the goal for students to be career ready, it is the goal of AHS to match every student with an industry mentor. AHS is always looking for mentors to help students achieve their dreams.
Our goal is to connect adults who are willing to commit their time, skills, and expertise through consistent one-on-one relationships with students to help them in achieving their academic and career goals. It’s the process in which individuals with successful careers or backgrounds in aviation, aerospace and business go out of their way to help AHS students succeed.
Mentors can and will have:
- Scheduled monthly face-to-face (and preferably more often)
- Planned/scheduled phone follow-ups (optional)
- Spontaneous calls (evenings or weekends)
- E-mail contact (all students will have an AHS e-mail address)
- Opening Doors - Arranging to take student to events, visits to your business or other aviation related businesses, introducing student to industry professionals, etc.
Desired Mentor Qualifications:
- Willingness to work one-on-one with a high school student to help them succeed
- Ability to make time to work with student for the entire school year
- Willingness to and ability to participate in all program activities
- Aviation and/or aerospace related expertise (knowledge and skills) to share
- Professional, managerial, and/or technical experience
- Reputation as a people developer
- Communication (speaking, listening, and writing) skills
